Newport TN Animal Shelter Needs Your Help

Compounding the fact that many of our shelters are simply maxed out on space and resources for strays, abandoned, and surrendered pets, our legal system also turns to them as a holding cell for seized animals.

Because our pets are considered property then cannot be legally re-homed until due process has crept through our court system. This leaves many shelters holding the bag for months at a time and it’s a bag that’s already full to begin with.

My local shelter in Newport TN, is facing such a problem right now. A recent seizure by the police of 41 dogs living in squalor. While the offenders have been charged with 40 counts of animal cruelty, the dogs  have swollen the ranks of our already maxed out shelter to overflowing and they need our help.

While they seem to have a good supply of volunteers to help now, other supplies are much needed. Monetary donations are appreciated and you can make your check out to:

If you prefer sending supplies, here is a list of what they most need:

  • Dog & Cat Shampoo
  • Waterless Bath Spray
  • Trash Bags
  • Bleach
  • Paper Towels
  • Toilet Paper
  • Liquid Laundry Detergent
  • Liquid Dawn Dish Soap
  • Liquid Hand Soap
  • Scrub Sponges
  • Dryer Sheets
  • Newspapers
  • Shredded Paper (Not Chipped)
  • Copy Paper

If you have any questions and would like to contact them directly, the number is (423)623-1010

If you can, let them know that Dog Lovers everywhere appreciate their hard work on behalf of our best friends.

  1. Ooph. These cases can be so overwhelming, and I’ve seen things get ugly, even between the shelters and the volunteers who step in to help in the long term. Bickering over adoptions, if / when that’s allowed.

    • Hopefully it won’t come to that here Roxanne. In the meantime, even though the dogs are in a shelter, they are better off than where they were.
